From a young age, Kei’s fashion choices were more than just clothing, they were a canvas for self-expression.
“I wasn’t someone who was hung up on trends or what other people wore,” Kei explains. “I’d take hand-me-downs and reinvent them — cutting, tying— just to make it my own.”
Her hair, she says, is her biggest statement piece, seamlessly blending with her outfits to communicate her energy in ways words can’t.
“I never liked wearing what somebody else wore,” she emphasizes. This fierce individuality translates not just into her look but into her music and visual art, where originality is non-negotiable.
Creative Direction Rooted in Message
As a creative director, Kei’s priorities are clear: the story and message must shine through above all else. Even with limited resources or unexpected challenges, she refuses to compromise the authenticity of her visuals. “If the message isn’t communicated, I’m not putting that visual out,” she asserts. This dedication has led to impressive outcomes, despite budget constraints or logistical hiccups.
Interestingly, Kei doesn’t attribute her creative instincts to formal training or conventional influences but to a divine source.
“Honestly, I have no idea where it comes from. It’s just in me, from God,” she says.
This intuitive vision allows her to conceptualize video ideas even while recording music, pushing her artistry to new heights despite the obstacles she sometimes faces.
Embracing Heritage and Culture
Kei’s background enriches her art and identity. Born in Boston, she carries a vibrant Caribbean heritage through her father’s roots in Montserrat and an array of cultural influences from her mother’s side. This blend adds texture to her music and style, evoking comparisons to artists like Rico Nasty and underscoring her unique perspective.
Building a Brand Beyond Music
Beyond her musical journey, Kei has ventured into other creative domains. Her collaboration with Prolific Cannabis to launch a strain called “keiweifruit” reflects her commitment to merging culture, creativity, and business. The partnership with a local Boston dispensary exemplifies how Kei aligns her brand with products that resonate personally and culturally.
“I love uplifting local entrepreneurs and creatives, especially when it aligns with my mission,” she says. The name “keiweifruit” plays on the playful misinterpretation of her own name while connecting to growth and nature, tying into themes present in her album Growing Pains.
Looking forward, Kei envisions expanding into fashion, culinary arts, makeup, hair care, choreography, and more creative direction, always with a core focus on authenticity and connection.
Staying True in a Changing Industry
Kei’s groundedness comes from a deep understanding of herself.
“I was never fond of being anything but myself from a young age,” she reflects. Her advice to others: “You can do and be anything as long as it truly reflects who you are inside.”
In an industry that often pushes artists to conform, Kei’s commitment to self is a powerful testament to individuality and inner strength.
Her confidence, she explains, was born from overcoming self-doubt. “I learned that the things that made me different were actually what made me great.” This evolving confidence drives her art and her journey.
The Biggest Lesson: Lead with Love
One of the most profound insights Kei shares is the importance of love and humility in success. “Leading with love, living like God, being gracious and understanding... that’s everything,” she says. Removing ego and serving a higher purpose keeps her grounded as she navigates her career.

When asked about the future, Kei embraces uncertainty with faith and excitement.
“I have no idea where this journey is taking me, but I know what I want, and I’m looking forward to getting there.” Expect new music, broader creative projects, and a growing presence that continues to defy expectations.
