Connecting Faith, Love, and Purpose: The Launch of Knot Perfect, a Christian Dating App Designed for Deeper Connections
In a world where dating apps have become the norm, the quest for meaningful, lasting relationships can often feel like a lost cause. Yet, for Makahla Gill, the founder of Knot Perfect, her vision for a dating app centered around faith and substance is not just a dream — it's a reality. On Saturday, February 15th, perfectly aligned with Valentine’s Day, she launched Knot Perfect, a Christian dating app created to foster deeper, more intentional connections.

Held at the contemporary Plywood Place in Atlanta, Georgia, the event was nothing short of magical, with hundreds of attendees in a space that buzzed with anticipation, love, and hope. It was a night that embodied the core values of the app — integrity, community, and faith.
Makahla's journey began years ago, when she herself was frustrated with the dating world. After finding her now-husband through a dating app, she realized that there was a void in the space — specifically a lack of apps that truly catered to Christians who were serious about faith and relationships. "Where are all of the men of God?" she wondered. "Yes, it's what they claimed in their bios, but once you got to know them, their standards weren’t actually aligned with what they said."

From that frustration, Knot Perfect was born. The app is designed to go beyond superficial attraction and focus on the deeper aspects of compatibility, especially faith. While Christian apps existed, many were either oversaturated with users or lacked a serious, intentional approach. Knot Perfect aims to change that narrative, creating a space where users are encouraged to connect based on shared values, emotional compatibility, and spiritual alignment. And Makahla had the perfect reason for doing it: “I wanted to create what I once needed,” she says.
Overcoming Challenges and Finding Faith
Starting a dating app, particularly one with a faith-based approach, is no small task. As a Black woman entrepreneur, Makahla faced her share of challenges. From the unknowns of building an app to the realities of working with a tight budget, the road to success was not always smooth. "Being self-funded and finding the right people to work with... there was just a learning curve," Makahla admits. "And I was definitely struggling with imposter syndrome. I kept seeing other apps with larger budgets and fewer glitches."

However, Makahla's perseverance and faith led her through the toughest moments. "There were a lot of lows. But when you trust in God and walk by faith, He will increase your efforts," she says with a conviction that echoes throughout her story. Despite the obstacles, she kept pushing forward, driven by a deep belief that this was her calling — to help Christians find meaningful relationships that lead to marriage and, ultimately, a happily-ever-after.
Deeper Connections and Thoughtful Design
At the heart of Knot Perfect is the desire to create authentic connections. Unlike the typical swipe culture, where a profile picture often determines a potential match, Makahla made the bold decision to implement blurred profile pictures until users match. This forces people to look beyond superficial attraction and engage with the person’s deeper qualities. "The goal is to get people to connect on a deeper level, not just based on a photo. That’s why the profile pictures are blurred," she explains.

In addition to the visual design, the app incorporates unique questions that encourage users to share more meaningful aspects of themselves. The questions are designed to dig deep, asking about personal values, attachment styles, and life goals. "It’s about finding out who someone truly is, not just what they look like," Makahla says.
One of the app's unique features is its emphasis on protecting the integrity of its members. Although it’s a Christian app, Makahla knows that not everyone who signs up may be genuine in their faith. To combat this, users are required to upload photos of themselves, which are then verified to ensure the person matches the profile. In addition, the app uses thoughtful questions to help users assess potential matches in a way that goes beyond superficiality.
A Night to Remember: The Launch Event
The launch event was a testament to the mission behind Knot Perfect. Hosted by Matthew Hudson, the event featured a live blind dating game where attendees had the chance to witness real, meaningful connections being made. The game had two rounds — in the first, a lady blind-dated three male contestants, and in the second, a man interviewed three women. The contestants didn’t shy away from sharing their views on what a loving, faith-based relationship meant to them. The one thing they all had in common? A shared desire for a partnership built on Christian values and love.

The questions asked during the event were as thoughtful as the app itself. "What does your prayer life look like?" one contestant asked. Another asked, "What is your attachment style and how does it come up in tough situations?" As the questions unfolded, it was clear that the participants were there for more than just a date — they were looking for something real, something lasting. At the end of the event, the successful pairings were treated to a $100 gift card for their first date, sponsored by Knot Perfect.
As the evening went on, it was impossible not to feel the magic in the air. The energy was evident, and the sense of connection was immense. Watching the event unfold felt like being a part of your favorite reality dating show, where you couldn’t wait to see if these couples would make it — if they would truly find their happily-ever-after. And just like a reality show, you’ll be able to follow the journey through the app’s Instagram account, keeping up with the progress of the couples who met that night.

A Bright Future Ahead
Makahla’s vision for Knot Perfect doesn’t end with the launch. Looking ahead to the future, she hopes the app will continue to evolve, attracting more users while maintaining the integrity of its mission. "I want Knot Perfect to withstand lots of users," she says. "We are committed to dating safety and creating healthy dating habits." She also plans to host more events like the launch party, providing spaces where like-minded people can meet and form connections beyond the digital realm.
Reflecting on her journey, Makahla is quick to share her advice for others, especially Black women, who aspire to enter tech or start their own businesses. "Network, take workshops, and keep learning," she encourages. "You can do whatever you set your mind to. And don’t put yourself in a box."
A Heartfelt Thank You and A New Beginning
The night ended with a feeling of hope, excitement, and faith. Knot Perfect is more than just a dating app — it’s a movement. A movement toward meaningful, intentional relationships built on shared values and the desire for lasting love. If you missed the event, don’t worry — this is just the beginning. 2025 is set to be the year of cultivating real, meaningful connections, and Makahla’s Knot Perfect is leading the charge.
