Glitch the Matrix: Tiny Acts of Rebellion That Rewire Your Reality

Updated: Jun 16

Let’s keep it real: life can start to feel like the Monday-est Monday—wake up, work, eat, maybe scroll TikTok for a break, rinse, repeat. We clock in, clock out, and somewhere between Monday’s “I’ll just rest tonight” and Friday’s “I’m too tired to go out,” we start to forget something major: we are more than our jobs.

That 9 to 5? It pays the bills, sure. But it can also quietly become a trap if we’re not careful. A routine so repetitive it makes us forget the fire we had before adulting took over. The wild ideas. The creative projects. The dreams we shelved because “there’s no time.”

But here’s your wake-up call: YOU are allowed to live. Not just exist. Not just survive ‘til Friday. Live. Loud, bold, and on your own terms. And it all starts with a little thing we’ve been taught to fear: spontaneity.

The Case for Spontaneity (A.K.A. Remembering Who TF You Are)

Let’s be honest—spontaneity gets a bad rap. It’s seen as reckless, irresponsible, “doing too much.” But what if we told you spontaneity is actually one of the most responsible things you could bring into your life? Because when done with purpose, it reconnects you to your why. Your joy. Your identity beyond the email signature and the meeting fatigue.

It’s easy to become a slave to the system. The capitalist machine has no shame—it will churn you out and replace you without hesitation. You could be sick. Your mama could be sick. You could have just had a baby. And still, the machine will keep spinning.

But you? You’ve only got one life. One you. And while we’re not telling you to quit your job tomorrow (unless that's part of your freedom plan), we are telling you to reclaim your time. Get bold. Get creative. Get spontaneous with your life.

Spontaneity Doesn’t Mean Chaos—It Means Freedom

This isn’t about ditching all responsibility and going full YOLO (unless that’s your vibe). It’s about balancing the grind with moments that make your soul light up. It’s about finding those little pockets of time that are already yours—your lunch break, your PTO, that random Wednesday when you wake up with an itch to just go somewhere—and making the most of them.

Want to take a midday solo date to a museum? Do it. Want to drive an hour to that cute town you saw on Instagram just for coffee? Why not? Want to spend your lunch break journaling in the park with your headphones in, blocking out the world? That counts too.

These are the moments that add color to the grayscale of the grind. And they’re yours for the taking.

Be Unapologetic—But Be Smart, Too

Listen, we’re not about to sit here and act like you don’t need a plan. Yes, be spontaneous. But also—play your role. Know your environment. Don’t give the job a reason to make your finesse game harder than it needs to be. Handle your business. But also? Keep the end goal in sight: a life that feels like you.

Whether you’re 21 or 41, the time to choose yourself is always now. Not after the promotion. Not once the kids are grown. Now. Because regret is loud. And the last thing you want is to look back one day and realize you traded your joy for a paycheck and forgot to truly live.

So What’s Stopping You?

For real. What’s stopping you from dancing in your kitchen on a Tuesday night just because your song came on? What’s stopping you from taking that day trip? Starting that book club? Reaching out to that old friend you randomly thought of? Nothing but the rules you’ve been told to follow. And guess what? You can rewrite them.

You are not just your job title. You are not just a provider. You are not just surviving.

You are living—and that means saying “yes” to the life you want, even in small, unexpected ways.

So go ahead. Be responsible. Handle your business. But don’t forget to sprinkle some magic on your days. Because at the end of it all? This life is yours.

Live it up, unapologetically. With joy. With intention. And with just enough spontaneity to remind yourself: you are alive.
